The advice I am giving always to all my students is above all to study the music profoundly... music is like the ocean, and the instruments are little or bigger islands, very beautiful for the flowers and trees.

Dallas Music Teachers Association

Dear Prospective Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in joining the Dallas Music Teachers Association, one of the largest and most active local MTA organizations in the country. Our organization provides many performance opportunities for students and continuing education for member teachers. We strive for excellence in all areas of music teaching, and furnish a structure of professional support for all our members. There are three categories of applicants: New Members, Transfer, and Secondary Members.

New Members:

If you have never before been a member of MTNA or any local MTA, you may apply as a New Member. First, please complete the DMTA membership application and return it to the membership chair. In addition, new members must also submit two letters of recommendation, which should be written by professional musicians who are familiar with your work. If you have any questions, about the letters or the application process, please contact the membership chairman. Once the application process is completed, the DMTA board will vote on your membership request.

Once your application is approved, you should complete the MTNA application online at www.mtna.org. (It is not possible to be a member of DMTA without being a member of both MTNA and TMTA.) A total payment of $138.00 will then be made to MTNA to cover your dues for national ($68), state ($35), and local ($35) membership for one year. Your dues also includes a subscription to American Music Teacher magazine in addition to all of the benefits associated with MTNA and TMTA membership. The most efficient way to pay your dues is through the MTNA website. Please do not send a check to the DMTA Membership Chair.

New members must also submit two letters of recommendation. It is preferable that these letters be written by professional musicians who are familiar with your work. If you have any questions, about the letters or the application process, please contact the membership chairman.

Transfer/Secondary Members:

If your membership in MTNA is in good standing, or if you have recently been a member of MTNA, you need only complete the DMTA membership application. If you have already paid your national and state dues, the local portion of your dues ($35) may be paid by sending a check made out to DMTA directly to the membership chair. Letters of recommendation for transfer and secondary members are not necessary. If you have questions about the status of your national or state dues, please contact the membership chairman.

DMTA Membership Materials should be sent to:

Thank you again for your interest, and I look forward to assisting you in joining our organization. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time with questions about membership or the application process.

You may also wish to consult the MTNA page regarding questions about membership.
